El disciplinamiento de la mano de obra indígena en los orígenes
de la sociedad chilena, 1560-1600
Leonardo León S.
Abstract:
On
the basis of historical sources, the consequences of the war between
the Spanish and the Promaucae in the geographical area of central
Chile, and the effects of this conflict on the results of the fight
sustained by the Mapuche groups located southwards of the Biobío
river are both analysed. It is herein proposed that the indigenous
world and its forms of resistance did not vanish from the Promaucae
area after Lautaro’s defeat in the year 1557. On the contrary,
multiple practices firmly rooted on tradition survived and opposed
features like exile and exploitation through the encomienda system,
strategies used by the Spanish to establish the new colonial social
order.
