Los mapuche en Santiago del Siglo XXI: desde la ciudadanía
política a la demanda por el reconocimiento.
Nicolás Gissi
Abstract:
This article intends to rescue, visualize and
think over identity and demands of immigrant mapuche residents in
the metropolitan territory, as well as become a contribution in the
understanding of contemporary mapuche history. This pages are based
on an study centered on what we can denominate “informal mapuche
organization” alluding to the existence of an incipient mapuche
society and culture in Santiago, beyond the ascription to formal ethnic
associations. This cultural emergence would be fortified by the mapuche
auto segregation in certain residential areas of the capital. Part
of the results of a qualitative research conducted in Cerro Navia
district, which focuses on territory, are presented.
